Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted the T20 World Cup winning squad at his official residence in the national capital on Thursday.

The Indian cricket team had a lively meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence in New Delhi on Thursday. PM Modi hosted the T20 World Cup winning squad to celebrate their triumph over breakfast.

As per a report in The Indian Express, during the meeting, PM Modi enquired Rohit Sharma how the mud tastes as the captain was seen eating a piece of the pitch on which India defeated South Africa in the final last week.

Virat Kohli, who didn’t have a good tournament but stepped up in the final with a match-winning fifty, was asked about his mindset heading into the title clash.

South Africa put themselves in a strong position in the run-chase and needed 30 off 30 at one stage before the pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya combined to stage a terrific fightback and seal a thrilling seven-run win.

PM Modi asked about Bumrah’s thinking during the slog overs while with Pandya, he discussed his plans for the final over in which the allrounder defended 16 runs.

Suryakumar Yadav, who took the stunning catch of David Miller, and Axar Patel, who played an enterprising knock after being promoted in the batting order, were also asked about their experiences of the final.

The Indian team arrived in the national capital early Thursday morning after a 16-hour flight from Barbados where they were stuck for nearly three days as the airport was shut down due to Hurricane Beryl.

Upon landing, they checked into a five-star hotel in New Delhi following which they met with the PM. Next they headed to the airport for Mumbai where they took part in a roadshow as lakhs of fans thronged the Marine Drive to celebrate the world cup triumph with their stars.

The day drew to a close with a felicitation ceremony held at the Wankhede Stadium which was thrown open the fans.
