Preview: Less than five days after playing one of the most memorable Test matches in recent history, West Indies and Pakistan will once again take the field in the second and final match of the series on Friday, 20 August. Since the second Test will also be played at Sabina Park in Jamaica, both the teams may opt to go with a fast bowling lineup after losing wickets without the spinners in the first game. West Indies skipper Craig Brathwaite may look to off-spinner Roston Chase to provide some variety and another fast bowler, perhaps Alzarri Joseph, to complete the pace. If Pakistan also wants to go with an all-pacer strategy, then Pakistan may also indulge in some changes which would mean Yasir Shah being ruled out of the second match.
The bowlers may have grabbed the most headlines in the first Test, but it also highlighted how important it is for batsmen to grind in difficult conditions, especially in low-scoring encounters. Though several batsmen from both the sides started, they could not convert it into big scores. Craig Brathwaite and Babar Azam are leading with the bat in the first game, both wanting the rest of the batting lineup to work together in the final Test.

Waqar Younis (Pakistan bowling coach): “We can’t find a better advertisement for the beauty of Test cricket than this. Both the teams fought very well but unfortunately, we did not take advantage of some good opportunities at the crucial stage of the match which cost us in the end. The pitch was conducive for fast bowling and our fast bowlers bowled really well. Undoubtedly, it was a low target that we had to defend yet we tried really hard and it was just a few dropped catches that took the game away from us.”
