West Bengal: Woman cheated lakhs of unemployed youth by pretending to be a CID officer

Kolkata: At a time when unemployment is at its peak due to the ongoing pandemic, many such scams have also come to the fore where people are given jobs. In one such incident, a woman posing as a CID officer in a police uniform duped lakhs of unemployed youths in West Bengal.

A woman named Radharani Biswas has allegedly duped lakhs of unemployed youths of the state by promising them a job. The accused is a resident of Kanthalpota in Krishnanagar, West Bengal.

According to sources, the woman tried to establish herself as an influential person by getting involved in social work. Many youths have also lodged a complaint against the woman at the Kotwali police station.

Gaurav Chatterjee, one of the affected persons said, “She introduced herself as a CID officer and was involved in various social works. The lady offered me a job in the health department. I agreed to the offer and he snatched Rs 5 lakh from me. After paying that money, I did a medical test, but I haven’t got a job yet. Despite repeated requests, he refused to return the money and I was forced to file a complaint at the Kotwali police station. Many people like me have already cheated on the woman.” The accused is a resident of his neighbourhood.

However, the accused woman could not be contacted. When the officials concerned reached her residence, her daughter said that her mother was not at home. He denied all the charges against his mother and said that she was being falsely implicated.

Local Trinamool Congress leader Biswajit Chakraborty also alleged that the woman used to roam the area in police uniform and identified herself as a CID officer. “Lakhs of rupees have been embezzled by influencing local youths by luring them with jobs. It is also alleged that he has cheated youth from other areas.

“I have heard such complaint. I will request the police to investigate and take appropriate action,” said the municipal administrator of Krishnanagar Municipality.
