West Bengal: TMC national working panel’s Friday meet may choose new mayors | Kolkata News – Times of India

KOLKATA: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee is likely to preside over the first meeting of the party’s newly constituted 20-member national working committee on February 18 at her Kalighat home, which is likely to name the mayors for Bidhannagar, Asansol and Chandernagore municipal corporations. The CM is also likely to give shape to other party committees, according to senior TMC leaders.
After the party’s massive win in the four municipal corporation elections, CM Banerjee had only named Gautam Deb as the Siliguri mayor-designate and said that the party will decide on the next Bidhannagar mayor. Two names doing the rounds as the most likely BMC mayor candidates are former and first BMC mayor Sabyasachi Dutta and Krishna Chakraborty, the outgoing mayor who had taken over after Dutta resigned from the post in 2019.
As for the deputy mayor, chairperson and other mayor-in-council members, several names are in the fray. According to insiders, Debraj Chakraborty, who is coming up fast on the party ranks, could well become the next BMC deputy mayor. Debraj, also the Trinamool Youth Congress president of North 24 Parganas, Dum Dum and Barrackpore belt, has become an influential party leader in the Rajarhat side, with his wife Aditi Munshi being the MLA of Rajarhat-Gopalpur.
Aratrika Bhattacharya, daughter of former BMC deputy mayor and present Rajarhat-New Town MLA Tapas Chatterjee who won by the biggest margin of 10,342 from her nearest competitor, is all likely to get an important portfolio in the mayor-in-council circle. Old-timers like Anita Mondal, Tulsi Sinha Roy, Minu Das Chakraborty, all representing from Salt Lake side of BMC, are likely to remain having important portfolios like the chairperson and MMIC posts.
