The CBI has filed two separate chargesheets in the murder of Trinamool Congress leader Bhadu Sheikh and the alleged arson by him on March 21 in Bogatui village of West Bengal’s Birbhum district, officials said on Monday. was burnt. The CBI has named four people as accused in the chargesheet filed in Sheikh’s murder, while 18 people, including TMC leader Anarul Hussain, have been named in the arson case, he said.

On the night of March 21, nine people, including women and children, were burnt to death in Bogtui village after entering their houses. In retaliation for the killing of TMC’s Rampurhat panchayat leader Sheikh in a crude bomb attack that evening, the mob opened fire. Following an order of the Calcutta High Court, the CBI took over the investigation of the case.

In its chargesheet relating to the Bogatui violence and arson, the Federal Investigation Agency alleged that it was a “direct result” of Sheikh’s murder. It is alleged that after the killing of Sheikh, his loyalists and members of the group set fire to the houses of the opponents in the village. The CBI has alleged that there was rivalry between Bhadu Sheikh and Palash Sheikh and Sona Shaikh’s groups for dominance in the area and control over the proceeds from illegal collection of money from commercial vehicles and other illegal activities had existed for a long time.
