‘Weekend War’ on ED, ‘Invincible’ Rahul Gandhi and Reactivated Cadre: Decoding Congress’s Revival Roadmap

Congress has been preparing for a big fight on the streets for several days – possible arrest of Rahul Gandhi by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) next week. While there is no clarity on whether this will happen, top Congress leaders do not want to be struck by surprise or poor planning.

Sources confirmed to News18.com that all state units and other subsidiary units of the party have been asked to be on alert from Sunday, June 19 – a day before Rahul Gandhi would appear for the fourth round of questioning by the agency. Huh. The leaders and activists have been asked to either come to Delhi or stay in their respective state capitals to ensure maximum coverage and hold protests against possible arrests.

As reported earlier, Congress’s plan and strategy worked to emulate Indira Gandhi’s arrest on corruption charges in 1977, where she challenged the then central government and used her arrest to make a political comeback.

Sources also say that part of the plan to “capitalize” on the arrests revolves around the Gandhi siblings gearing up for what is to come.

The fact is that the top leadership of the Congress, especially the Gandhi family, knows that this is likely to be a long race. Rahul Gandhi has often used the tagline “Daro Mat” or don’t be afraid. The arrest will further raise his slogan that he is invincible.

Sources say that if the arrests happen next week, the Congress cadre has been alerted to take to the streets, hold press conferences across the country, ‘gherao’ major offices and also be aggressive on social media. Thus work has been cut out for Jairam Ramesh, the new Communications Department head.

This is an opportunity the Congress does not want to lose to capture the pulse and imagination of voters, especially in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
