The Uttar Pradesh government has directed all district magistrates to attract as many people as possible to the week-long Diwali fairs that will begin in all cities and towns of the state from October 28. This comes after a surge in Covid-19 cases in West Bengal. Worship festival.

The UP government, in an order sent to all DMs, has directed that a campaign will be launched by the district authorities to widely publicize the fairs with local advertisements and press conferences, so that more and more people can reach the Diwali fairs. Last week, in an interview to News18, the head of the COVID task force, VK Paul, said that during the festive season people need to be very responsible. “The crowd is bad, the big gatherings are bad, the markets are crowded… the virus loves these things. Please don’t appease the virus by creating these situations and hence don’t lower your guard,” VK Paul had said. In West Bengal, Covid cases have spiked following the lifting of night curfew, overcrowding at Durga Puja pandals, ‘revenge eating’ and casual attitude towards wearing face masks during the festive season from October 10 to 20.

There is also concern over the new Covid variant recently detected in Indore.
