Weather Update: IMD forecasts rain in these cities for next 4 days

New Delhi: With the onset of torrential monsoon, the India Meteorological Department on Friday released a weather forecast report that has predicted heavy rains in several Indian states for the next four days. Heavy (64.5 to 114.5 mm) to very heavy (115.6 to 204.4 mm) rain is likely over Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Rajasthan, with thunderstorms and lightning over three days.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the national capital is likely to receive cloudy sky with thundershowers in the next few days. IMD has issued lightning and thunderstorm warnings in eight districts of Madhya Pradesh. In Mumbai, where it has been raining heavily for the past few days, the city and suburbs received moderate rains. IMD has said that there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places. The IMD also said that occasional strong winds up to 40-50 km/h are likely.

Heavy rains continued in Karnataka on Saturday as well, disrupting life at many places. Along with the coastal and hilly districts, the districts of North Karnataka are also facing the brunt of rains. The districts of North Karnataka are facing the threat of floods. The morning of the capital Bengaluru was pleasant with cool breeze and drizzle.

An alert has been issued in Kalaburagi district for Saturday and Sunday. Kalaburagi, famous for its rising temperature, is currently enjoying the hill-station-like weather. The District Commissioner of Kalaburgi has declared a holiday for schools and colleges on Saturday. Yellow alert has also been issued for Belagavi and Bidar districts.

Heavy rains are also continuing over Andhra Pradesh under the influence of active Southwest Monsoon. The India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in East Godavari, West Godavari and Krishna districts. There is also a possibility of heavy rain in Guntur and Prakasam districts.

The IMD also said that Goa is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places as well as extremely heavy rainfall (> 204.4 mm) at isolated places for five consecutive days. “Very heavy rainfall (rainfall >115.5 mm in 24 hours) is very likely to occur at isolated places over both North and South Goa districts on July 10 and 11. Heavy rain is very likely. gusting to about 50 kmph. Winds are likely. Rain spells,” the IMD said in a statement. Gujarat, Karnataka and Kerala will also see heavy to very heavy rains.
