Weather Live Updates: Incessant rains have thrown normal life out of gear across North India, causing deaths, landslides, destruction and flood-like situation in several parts of North India including the national capital. Relief measures are underway on a war footing as the rains wreak havoc across the states. On Wednesday, 12 people died in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh. According to official figures, 18 people have died in Punjab and Haryana so far. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the next of kin of those who died in rain-related incidents. In Punjab, around 10,000 people have been evacuated so far from Patiala, Rupnagar, Moga, Ludhiana, Mohali, SBS Nagar and Fatehgarh Sahib districts.

Meanwhile, eight cities in Himachal Pradesh broke all previous records of single-day rainfall in the month of July as the state received unprecedented rainfall from July 7 to 10. Heavy to very heavy rains caused flash floods, cloudbursts and landslides causing house collapses. In the last four days, the rains have claimed 39 lives so far.

According to government agencies, the water level of the Yamuna in Delhi rose to 208.38 meters on Wednesday, surpassing the highest level of 207.49 meters recorded in 1978. Following this, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal urged people living in low-lying areas to vacate their homes, saying the water level in the river was likely to rise further. A rapid rise in the water level of Yamuna has been recorded in Delhi in the last few days. It increased from 203.14 meters at 11 am on Sunday to 205.4 meters at 5 pm on Monday, crossing the danger mark of 205.33 meters 18 hours earlier than expected.
