‘We want to bring out the truth, not hate’, says ‘The Kashmir Files’ producer Abhishek Agarwal

new Delhi: As ‘The Kashmir Files’ is garnering huge audience applause while making money at the box office, and even Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the film, its producer Abhishek Agarwal explains how the film It intends to bring out the truth, not to incite hatred. any community.

The film is based on real-life incidents of exodus of Kashmiri Pandits and the makers insisted on calling it a ‘genocide’, even as a section of people questioned the timing of the film.

Considering the fact that over the years, society has become polarized and hatred against the Muslim community has increased, the possibility of fueling more hatred against Muslims through the film increases.

Addressing the issue, in an interaction with IANS, the film’s producer Abhishek explained, “I disagree on that point. Our intention was to bring out the truth which was ignored for the last 32 years. We are creating hatred against Muslims. The Kashmiri Pandit community was brutally killed by terrorists and forced to flee their land.

“They were trained terrorists, their minds were fundamentalists. A terrorist can’t have any religion. I look at this case this way, a group of terrorists who were Muslims killed Kashmiri Pandits. We showed the truth in the film. Is.”

Directed by National Award winning filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, the film is based on extensive research work, a collection of several testimonies by first-generation victims of the 1990 exodus in Kashmir.

Asked how he came to be the producer of the film, Abhishek shared, “After the abrogation of Article 370, I wanted to make a film on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits. I just realized that even though the people of Kashmir are There are many references. Our cinema, one of the most important parts of our history, has not been shown in our films.

“When I decided to make the film, and also came to know that Vivek ji is already doing research on the film, we had a conversation and decided that instead of making two films, make a proper film and reach out to a wider audience. . Possible.”

The film featuring – Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Chinmay Mandlekar, Darshan Kumar, Prakash Belawadi, Puneet Issar, Pallavi Joshi, and Bhasha Sumbli – released in theaters on March 11.
