Hinting that a new law may be considered to regulate the online and information technology sector, Minister of State for IT Rajiv Chandrasekhar on Wednesday said global IT power India would need to evolve to a new law. . ,

“The IT Act predates 2000, and was last amended in 2008. We will evolve to a new law. We are a global force in IT. Now there are new entities online which we thought of even a few months back. So it is common sense that we will need to evolve our laws, especially with regard to user harm. I cannot say when the new law will be made, but a new law will have to be made.’

He also said that the new IT rules were to make the middlemen accountable to the users when education was also being imparted online considering the need for security.
