Ways to make leftover food tastier

Many of us keep leftovers from our lunches, dinners and finally throw them away after a few days. To prevent food waste, we have listed some recipes that won’t let go of your leftovers.

Rice

Why eat plain boring rice when you can jazz it up with a simple twist. To eat your rice in a classic South Indian style, simply take your plain steamed rice and turn it into curd rice. how? Heat 2 tbsp coconut oil in a pan, add 1 tbsp mustard, 1 tbsp curry powder, 1 tbsp red chilli powder, 1 tbsp peanuts and let it cook for 2 minutes. Now, add the remaining rice and mix quickly. Switch off the heat and add about 3 cups of curd. Garnish with pomegranate seeds, mix well and serve hot.

Instead of microwaving your leftover dal, add tempering to make it tastier. Heat 1 tbsp ghee in a pan, add a pinch of asafoetida, tsp cumin, 1/2 green chilli and tsp red chilli powder. Cook for a minute and add this tempering to the remaining dal. Cover it with a lid and let the smell of lentils absorb. Your fresh as always and more delicious than ever dal is now ready to be served.

Do you have any leftover idlis in your breakfast? Use them to make fried idli fusion dishes. To prepare the dish, first cut the idli into 3-4 pieces. Now heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan, add 4 garlic cloves and 1 cube onion and fry for two minutes. Add chopped capsicum- green, red or yellow as per your taste. Fry them for another couple of minutes. Add 1 tbsp soy sauce 1 tbsp red chili sauce. To prepare the solution, mix one tablespoon of cornflour in a cup of water. Put it in a pan and mix it well. Add chopped idlis to it. Sprinkle them well in spices. Add 1 tsp black pepper powder and salt to taste. Serve garnished with green onions.
