Suryakumar Yadav He was 30 when he made his India debut but the flamboyant batsman says his late selection has only strengthened his resolve and made him even hungrier to succeed in the top-flight. Surya played another incredible inning in the shortest format – his unbeaten 112 off 51 balls helped India beat Sri Lanka by 91 runs in the third T20I on Saturday to seal a memorable 2-1 series win.

Surya told India head coach Rahul Dravid, “It makes me hungrier now.”

“I mean the amount of domestic cricket I have played, I have always enjoyed playing for my state side Mumbai and I always try to put on a show. Enjoyed batting there as well. Yes, in the last few days it Was a bit challenging.” Over the years but kept telling myself why do you play this game, enjoy it, the passion for this game made me drive so I just kept going.”

The interaction between the two was organized by BCCI TV.

Dravid started the conversation on a lighter note, saying, ‘It’s good to have someone here with me, who didn’t see me bat as a kid. , to which Surya replied, “No, I saw (you bat).”

Surya’s batting is a stark contrast to the way Dravid played his cricket, and the former India captain was only pointing towards the same. Dravid then asked if he could pick one or two innings which he felt were his best.

“Actually it is difficult for me to pick any one innings. I have enjoyed batting in all the tough conditions where I have gone out to bat. Whatever I have done in the last one year, I have just enjoyed myself. I am the same. I’m working.” re. As I said before, I try to enjoy and express myself as much as possible. In those tough conditions, teams try to pull out games. I try to take the game forward. If it works well for me and the team, I am happy,” Surya said.

The middle-order batsman’s century was his third in the format in just seven months, making him the first player in the history of the game to score three T20I hundreds while not opening the batting.

So how many shots are predetermined with his bat?

“I mean obviously in this format you have to be a bit pre-determined, and also you have to bowl another stroke if the bowler is a step ahead of you at that point. But yeah, I try.” Play in the field which fielder is there, which bowler can bowl at that time and it works.”

“If I’m hitting the ball really well or I mean whenever a left arm spinner or a leg spinner or a fast bowler is bowling I try and set the field for myself and as much as I try to time the ball as much as possible.”

Surya also credited his family for his immense success in recent times and Dravid, who was in charge when the batsman was finding his feet at India A level over the years, lauded the role played by his parents .

“I mean family has been the most important role in my cricketing journey so far. When I started playing cricket, they were the ones who helped me. Since my father is an engineer, there is no sports in my family. History No. I had to be a little different for him to see a spark in me and push me forward.

“She has made a lot of sacrifices and of course my wife. After our marriage she has been working really hard for me in terms of nutrition and staying fit. When I go back home we talk a lot about cricket. And we discuss how we can do better, how we can be one step ahead at this level and we really enjoy doing that.” (With PTI inputs)
