Virat Kohli is set to return to Test cricket in the series against Bangladesh, starting Thursday in Chennai. Virat Kohli was part of the Indian Test squad that toured South Africa but missed out on the five-match series against England on home soil due to the birth of his second child.

With the Indian cricket team’s World Test Championship (WTC) journey resuming this week, the Rohit Sharma-led side will want Virat Kohli to produce his best against Bangladesh. Kohli’s last half-century in Tests was against South Africa in Cape Town in December 2023. His last triple-figure score, in red-ball cricket, came in the Port of Spain Test against the West Indies in July 2023.
With 113 Tests to his name, Virat Kohli has 29 half-centuries, 30 tons, along with 8848 runs, at an average of 49.15. Ahead of Kohli’s return to red-ball cricket, Suresh Raina talked about the former India skipper’s form. Raina predicted that Kohli would go on to produce big scores in the ongoing edition of the WTC.
“Rohit is a fantastic captain and he proved it when the Indian team lifted the T20 World Cup Trophy. But the focus will be on Virat Kohli’s return to Red-ball cricket. He loves Test matches and gives a lot of respect to them. Leading to the WTC, India will play around 10 matches and I believe Virat will score a hell lot of runs in this Test cycle,” Suresh Raina told IANS.
“Virat thrives under pressure, and this whole Test season will see him at the centre of action. Bangladesh has strong pacers, but Kohli has shown his prowess against bowlers like Haris Rauf. Challenges boost him, and I expect him to shine,” Suresh Raina added.
In six he has Tests played against Bangladesh, Virat Kohli has 437 runs to his name. He is also one of the three players to have scored a double century in Test matches played between the two Asian sides.
