Jannik Sinner has made history as the first Italian to have his name engraved on the US Open trophy, following his impressive win over Taylor Fritz.
In a historic triumph, 23-year-old Jannik Sinner has become the first Italian ever to have his name inscribed on the prestigious US Open trophy. With a display of sheer power and finesse, Sinner dominated the men’s singles final at Arthur Ashe Stadium on September 8, defeating American star Taylor Fritz with scores of 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 to etch his name in the 143-year-old competition’s history. To mark this momentous achievement, the official US Open handle on Instagram has shared a video showing Sinner’s name being custom engraved on the trophy, accompanied by the caption, “Handcrafting US Open men’s singles victory.”
The clip opens with an engraver closely watching the dramatic final moments of the Jannik Sinner vs. Taylor Fritz match on TV. As Sinner clinches victory and lifts his racket in celebration, the scene shifts to the engraver meticulously at work. With precision, he begins etching Sinner’s name onto the gleaming silver trophy, and concludes by adding the year ‘2024’ beneath it, capturing the essence of this historic win.

Fans couldn’t help but react to the master craftsmanship featured in the video.
One of them claimed that watching this video was far more interesting than seeing celebrities attend the event. “This more interesting than watching celebs dance in ‘VIP’ boxes,” wrote the user.
Another was touched by the professional’s passion and wrote, “Love how he started as soon as he saw the winner.”
One user opined that the engraver deserved some credit and added, “What’s his name? He deserves some credit.”
Another said, “Love that both yesterday and today, the etcher stopped for a moment to watch Aryna’s and Jan’s moments of victory.”
“Wow once again this guy just free handing the trophy carving, he’s a legend,” added one more fan.
The US Open had only recently announced a multi-year partnership renewal with the American luxury jewellery brand Tiffany & Co. Following this development, the Louis Vuitton-owned fine jewellery brand has once again become the official trophy partner of the tournament.
For the past 37 years, Tiffany & Co. has created the prestigious US Open trophies. In addition, it will create souvenir trophies for both the men’s and women’s singles champions. These souvenir trophies are identical replicas, providing each champion with a personal, enduring keepsake of their victory.
As for Jannik Sinner, the Italian entered and exited the US Open 2024 as the world’s number-one-ranked men’s player. He will now be looking to add more crowns to his trophy cabinet.
