A significant part of Northern India is currently reeling under scorching heat. Heatwave conditions have been persistent over the past few weeks in some cities. On May 29, Mungeshpur in northwest Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 52.3 degrees Celsius, deemed to be the highest in the national capital. As major regions are coping with the rising temperatures, Himachal Pradesh remains unaffected. In fact, tourists and natives in the Manali region and Rohtang Pass were gifted with a fresh coat of snowfall on May 30, taking the people there by a pleasant surprise. Pictures and videos from the destination are currently going viral.

News agency ANI shared a slew of clips on X (formerly Twitter) capturing the breathtaking beauty of snowfall in Himachal Pradesh’s Rohtang Pass, Kullu, Lahaul, Spiti and others. One of the videos showed tourists at Rohtang enjoying the snowfall amidst snow-covered peaks. Dressed in thick winter costumes, the people seemed to have the time of their lives in the snow-coated wonderland. They clicked pictures, raised their hands in joy, and soaked in the pristine glory.

In another glimpse, continuous snowfall was recorded in Lahaul Spiti, as the roads, houses and cars got covered in a thick sheath of snow. The road towards the Atal tunnel faced a similar situation. The sidelines were engulfed with thick clumps of snow. Higher up in Rohtang Pass, temperatures dropped to one degree Celsius as snowfall showed no signs of stopping. Window panes of tourist vehicles were clogged with the accumulation of snow.

Social media users were quick to react to the videos. “So snow, heatwave and monsoon at the same time in India. Cool,” pointed out one individual. “These visuals will make many people so jealous of this kind of weather,” rightfully noted another person. “It’s the beauty of a hill station,” commented a third user. Sharing the sentiment, another comment read, “Whoops Himachal you beauty.”

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), thunderstorms and rain are likely to prevail in Manali from June 1 to June 6.
