Rishabh Pant has been the center of attention for a while now and after captaining the Indian side at the beginning of the year, things have taken a turn for the worse as the wicketkeeper-batsman’s place in India’s white-ball team continues to be in uproar . After being sidelined for most of the build-up to the T20s World Cup, Pant would have hoped to shut up his critics with a good performance in New Zealand where he got an extended run in both T20Is and ODIs.

However, the Delhi boy has not been able to set the stage on fire. during the pre-match interaction amazon prime With Harsha Bhogle out ahead of the third ODI against New Zealand, Pant’s frustration with his own form as well as outside noise came to the fore as the youngster appeared annoyed by one of the questions asked by the veteran broadcaster.

Bhogle asked Pant – drawing comparisons with one of India’s greatest players, Virender Sehwag – how as an opening batsman, Pant’s record in Tests is far better than in white-ball cricket, contrary to the perception that Pant’s The flamboyant batsman should have a better record in white-ball games.

“I asked the same question to Sehwag, now I will ask you. Looking at you we feel white ball cricket is your USP but it is your Test record which is better…: asked Bhogle to which Pant replied like this:

“Sir, records are just numbers. My white-ball record isn’t bad either…” Bhogle interjected, “I’m not saying it’s bad, I’m comparing it with Test numbers,” but Pant was having none of it.

After this curious conversation, Pant found himself in the middle after New Zealand won the toss and elected to field at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

India lost their openers Shikhar Dhawan (28) and Shubman Gill (13) till the 13th over, giving Pant another chance to play a long innings. However, the wicketkeeper-batsman lasted only 16 deliveries and was caught at midwicket trying to smash a short ball towards Cow Corner. He scored only 10 runs.

With Sanju Samson down his neck and Ishan Kishan also in the fray, a poor series here will put further pressure on Pant going into the Bangladesh tour.

While in Tests, Pant has already played some memorable innings and his ODI record is not too shabby at an average of 43 with a strike-rate of 72 and a strike-rate of 107.54. What is worrying though is that the left-hander averages 22 with a strike rate of 126.37 in the 66 T20 matches he has played so far.

Though to be fair to him, Pant hasn’t got a consistent run in the T20I side of late and even his batting position is yet to be settled.
