As many as three vents opened up on the eruption site on August 22 and one of them was producing 70-80-meter high sustained lava fountains.

Volcanic eruption is no doubt one of the most beautiful natural phenomena. You need to be lucky enough to witness this majestic beauty through naked eyes. Recently, a Belgian photographer was able to capture a hypnotic glimpse of a volcano during his visit to Iceland. The Nordic island country, located between the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans, is home to more than 100 volcanic mountains and thus, such a phenomenon is not quite rare there.

Jeroen Van Nieuwenhove, who shared the footage on Instagram, claimed that the latest eruption at the volcanic craters named ‘Sundhnuksgigar’ has been going on for “over a week.” “It is showing no real signs of slowing down at this time but that can, of course, rapidly change. I managed to squeeze in an evening of capturing some clips in my busy summer schedule,” Van Nieuwenhove shared in the caption.

According to the photographer, the area is restricted and as a member of the press, he had special permission to go there and capture the drone video. In the mesmerising clip, thick rivers of molten lava can be seen gliding into the crater, forming different artistic patterns and offering a breathtaking view.

“The various patterns and movement directions are really mind-boggling to watch. From top to bottom, I estimate the distance to be about 30 metres based on altitude and the lens I used,” Jeroen Van Nieuwenhove wrote in his post. According to Fox Weather, the volcano has erupted six times since the end of last year.

Marco Di Marco, a visual journalist, was recently in Iceland where he managed to capture a surreal video of the Northern Lights. What made the footage more fascinating was an active volcanic crater adding a fiery red hue to the night sky. Di Marco shared the video on Instagram with the title– “Lights and Fountains.”

“The aurora season just started again and it’s always special to see it dancing above the active craters,” Di Marco noted in the caption. According to him, as many as three vents opened up on the site on August 22 and one of them was producing “70-80-meter high sustained lava fountains.”

“The lava flows are enlarging the lava field mainly towards the northwest and fortunately, no infrastructure is in danger at the moment,” Di Marco added. Jeroen Van Nieuwenhove reacted to the post and commented, “This is what happens when the golden duo comes together.”
