Kiran Rao ventured into filmmaking back in 2010 with the critically acclaimed Dhobi Ghat. After a 13 year-hiatus from filmmaking, she has returned to directing with the recently-released film Laapataa Ladies. It premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year and was released in theatres on March 1. The movie was made on a meagre budget of Rs 4-5 crore, but it emerged as a success at the box office even. It has earned just around Rs 8 crore. Now, producer of the film and Kiran’s former husband, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has appealed to his fans to watch the movie in theatres. He was speaking on the occasion of his 59th birthday, which he celebrated yesterday, on March 14. He commended the team behind Laapataa Ladies – a film produced under his banner, Aamir Khan Productions – which has been operational for 23 years since its inception with Lagaan in 2001. Reflecting on the significance of Laapataa Ladies, Aamir expressed pride in the film’s exploration of human nature, emotions, and family dynamics. He specifically thanked Kiran Rao for her role in creating such a remarkable cinematic endeavour.

Later, Aamir Khan extended a special request to his fans, urging them to celebrate his birthday by supporting the film. He encouraged them to purchase tickets for Laapataa Ladies as a gift to him, emphasising that the film is still showing in cinemas. Aamir Khan expressed his hope that his fans would enjoy the movie and contribute to its success as a meaningful birthday gift to him.

As a producer, Aamir Khan is currently involved in the production of Lahore 1947, which features Sunny Deol in the lead alongside Karan Deol. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the film also stars Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, and Ali Fazal in pivotal roles. Lahore 1947 marks the first collaboration between Sunny and Aamir Khan – two superstars who have not worked together prior to this project. Despite not having collaborated before, both actors have been involved in iconic box-office clashes in the past, where each emerged victorious in their respective films. Apart from Lahore 1947, Aamir Khan is set to make his acting comeback with Sitaare Zameen Par.
