Coming into the match, KKR batted first and posted a mammoth score of 204 runs. Their top order could not shine with the bat except for Rahmunullah Gurbaz. The Afghan wicketkeeper-batsman scored a brilliant 57 to bring up his maiden IPL half-century. Late arrivals, Rinku Singh and Shardul Thakur showed a brilliant way to counter-attack. Rinku missed his half-century by just 4 runs while Shardul scored 68 off 29 balls.

In reply, RCB’s batting unit was completely stunned by the enigmatic spin of Varun Chakravarthy, Sunil Narine and debutant Suyash Sharma, who finished the game with impressive figures of 3 for 30 in his 4-over spell. Virat Kohli And Faf du Plessis got them off to a good start but could not sustain the momentum for long. After a massive collapse, Bangalore fell 81 runs short of the required total.
