Sri Lankan all-rounder Dhananjaya de Silva displayed exemplary batting against West Indies in the ongoing first Test at Galle on Monday. Batting on the second day, the number five batsman scored 61 runs in 95 balls with the help of five fours. But before he could get to three points, he lost his wicket in a rare way.

It was a strange way of losing a wicket and de Silva covered his face in disbelief.

Before de Silva’s half-century, the opening pair of Dimuth Karunaratne and Pathum Nishanka set the pace for the Sri Lankan innings with a 139-run stand. The home team captain scored a superb 147 off 300 balls while his batting partner contributed 56 off 140 balls as the hosts posted 386 in the first innings.

West Indies fast bowler Roston Chase returned as the leading wicket-taker with five wickets in the innings. Jomel Warican took three while Gabriel took two wickets from the innings.
