Bandipora: An avalanche was reported on Sunday (January 22) in a village in Gurez Valley of Bandipora district in north Kashmir. There was no information about any casualty. Visuals of the avalanche were also shared on social media. Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority has issued an avalanche warning in several districts. The authority has informed that low danger avalanches are likely in Baramulla and Ganderbal districts, while medium danger avalanches are likely in Doda, Poonch, Ramban, Bandipore and Kupwara districts. The Jammu and Kashmir region is prone to avalanches due to its hilly terrain.

“Medium-danger level avalanches very likely in Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, Ramban, Bandipore and Kupwara districts and low danger level avalanches very likely in Baramulla and Ganderbal districts in next 24 hours. People are advised to take precautions and It is advised to avoid the areas.” The Disaster Management Authority said in a statement quoted by ANI.
The JK Disaster Management Authority statement urged the public to exercise caution and avoid these areas for the next 24 hours. The authority has also advised people living in these districts to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
Residents are advised to closely monitor the weather forecast and stay updated about the situation. The authority has also urged people to avoid traveling to these districts till the situation improves.
