Madhwal cuts it short as Shubman goes for the cut shot but the ball bounces through the surface and hits the off stump which goes cartwheeling.

Mumbai Indians young pacer Akash Madhwal continued his impressive run with the ball as he dismissed Gujarat Titans openers Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill in their Indian Premier League match at the Wankhede Stadium. The 29-year-old impressed many with his last over against Royal Challengers Bangalore where he conceded just 6 runs.

On Friday, Madhwal was given the responsibility of bowling with the new ball as he dismissed Saha for just 2 runs in the second over of the innings. It was a good length delivery on middle stump and the ball bounced off the surface and onto Saha’s pads. Because he was declared LBW by the umpire.

Meanwhile, it was the wicket of Shubman Gill that got a big roar from the crowd. On the fifth ball of the fourth over, Madhwal pitched it short as Shubman went for the cut shot, but the ball bounced through the surface and went cartwheeling onto the off-stump. It was a rare off night at the office for Shubman as he was dismissed for 6 runs.

Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav’s maiden IPL century propelled Mumbai Indians to 218/5 against Gujarat Titans despite a Rashid Khan four-for in their 2023 match of the season at the Wankhede Stadium.

Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan started with their aggressive attitude. But Rashid threatened to steal the game by sending back both the openers in the same over and soon completed his four-wicket haul (4/30).

But Surya had plans of his own as he made sure to stay till the very last ball and took MI to a commanding position with an unbeaten 103 off just 49 balls studded with 11 fours and six maximums.

Apart from Rashid Khan, it was a night to forget for the other Gujarat Titans bowlers who were smashed around the park by Suryakumar as he also became the first batsman to score a century against the defending champions.
