After being crowned champions, Indian captain, Rohit Sharma took inspiration from Novak Djokovic to have a taste of the pitch in Barbados.

After finally leading the Indian team to an ICC T20 World Cup title by beating South Africa by seven runs in Barbados on Saturday, the skipper took a leaf out of Novak Djokovic’s book after winning the trophy.

After winning the drama-filled affair, Rohit went over to the pitch, patted it a couple of times and took a pinch of the soil which he ate as the Indian team continued their celebrations at the Kensington Oval.

The official ‘X’ account of Wimbledon shared pictures of Rohit and Novak Djokovic in similar action, drawing similarity between the two greats of their respective sports. Previously, Rohit has also revealed that he is a big fan of the Serbian and is likely that he drew his celebration after being inspired by the tennis legend’s greatness.

After winning the T20 World Cup 2024, Rohit also revealed in the post-match press conference that he would be retiring from the format along with his partner in crime, Virat Kohli who also announced that it was his last T20I game as well.

In a battle for the title, the Indian team managed to hold their nerves in a tightly contested affair as they were able to defend 176 despite the likes of Heinrich Klaasen and Quinton de Kock taking the game away from the Men in Blue.

It was the Indian pace-trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya that managed to come together and put in a performance of a lifetime while the spinners, barring Axar did not have much impact in the game.

Pandya was given the responsibility in the final over to defend 16 runs and he started off in the best way possible with the wicket of David Miller thanks to a historic catch by Suryakumar Yadav at long-off which sealed the deal and helped India take home the title.

Along with the likes of Kohli and Rohit leaving the format, it was a historic end to Rahul Dravid’s tenure as the head coach of the Indian team, who is going to take charge after Dravid is still unclear but reports suggest that it is Gautam Gambhir who is the front-runner.
