Congress General Conference: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reached Raipur on Saturday, while Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi reached Raipur on Friday.

The Gandhi family and other top Congress leaders were accorded a grand welcome in Raipur for the party’s 85th plenary session.

The video shows a thick bed of red roses on the road in front of the airport, with supporters waving flags and raising slogans ahead of Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s arrival in Chhattisgarh.

More than 6,000 kg of roses were used to decorate the road for about two km. Folk artistes dressed in colorful traditional attire were also seen performing on a long stage along the route, a Congress leader told PTI.

“More than 6,000 kg of roses were used to decorate the road. I always try something new to welcome our senior leaders,” said Raipur Mayor Ejaz Dhebar.

“To welcome Priyanka ji, stages were set up at various places on the way to the venue of the plenary session, where supporters also showered rose petals on her,” he said.

The road from the airport to the venue of the full convention was decorated with colorful posters and hoardings of senior Congress leaders. The hoardings have messages promoted during the Bharat Jodo Yatra to unite the country and spread love.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, state Congress chief Mohan Markam and other party leaders received Priyanka Gandhi Vadra at the Swami Vivekananda airport at around 8.30 am on Saturday.

Priyanka Gandhi told reporters that she was overwhelmed to receive such a grand welcome.

Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi Reached Raipur on Friday to attend the plenary session to be held from 24 to 26 February.

On the first day of the three-day convention, the Congress Steering Committee unanimously decided not to hold elections to the CWC and authorized the party chief to nominate its members.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the steering committee headed by Kharge, which was not attended by members of the Gandhi family.

The session, which comes in the backdrop of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, which has been described by the party as a success, has been attended by around 15,000 delegates.
