Watch: 1000 Made-in-India Drone Rehearsals for First Performance at Beating Retreat Ceremony

New Delhi: On the 75th year of India’s independence, the Government of India will organize 1000 Drone Light Shows to highlight the achievements of the country. This event will take place on January 29 during the ‘Beating Retreat Ceremony’.

Every year on 29 January, the Beating Retreat ceremony is organized after the Republic Day celebrations. This time around, it will have 1,000 drones flying in rhythm with background music as well as a laser ‘projection mapping’ demonstration.

The new drone exhibition was conceptualized by the Ministry of Defence, and will be organized by the IIT Delhi-based startup.

Beating Retreat Celebration

The four-day Republic Day celebrations concluded with a Beating Retreat. This ceremony marks the return of the army to the barracks.

The Beating Retreat ceremony in India dates back to the 1950s. Major Robert of the Indian Army then completed the ceremony with a performance by the armies’ band. The President is the chief guest of the Beating the Retreat ceremony.

Apart from the drone show that is going to be one of the major attractions of the Republic Day celebrations this year, another thing that people are eagerly waiting for is the air past of 75 aircraft that will take off over the Rajpath during the Republic Day parade.

Five Rafale jets will fly in a Vinash formation while the Navy’s MiG29K and P8I aircraft will also participate for the first time.

To be celebrated as Republic Day 2022, this will be the second Republic Day celebrations during the Covid-19 pandemic. With the recent increase in cases, no foreign dignitaries will be invited for the festivities.
