“We were told that we were going to be killed. During the journey a person asked to be called to walk next to me. He told me ‘look at those boys (in the crowd) over there’. He said ‘they are militants and they are watching you’. He gave me this form; I thought I was in trouble now,” Gandhi said.

“They (terrorists) couldn’t really do anything, even if they wanted to, they didn’t have the power. Because I came in an environment in which there was no violence. It was to me an indicator of nonviolence and the power of listening,” Gandhi said.

The security personnel told me that hand grenades would be thrown at you. But I wanted to walk, so I said if it’s grenades, let it be grenades. We saw the Indian flag coming up everywhere during the trip. Around 40,000 people demonstrated against the 2,000 who were expected,” Gandhi said.
