KL Rahul suggested that it was always in his plans to use spinners in the powerplay as even Jaydev Unadkat’s cutters were catching up.

Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul said that using spinners at the start of the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad was not a big deal for him. Lucknow registered their second win of the season and moved to the top of the points table. It was a dominant performance from Lucknow in all three departments as Sunrisers Hyderabad failed to put up a fight as their team selection suggested they didn’t read the pitch properly.

However, that was not the case with Rahul as he revealed that he read the pitch on the eve of the match.

“Tomorrow (when did they know how the pitch would play?) we have been here for a couple of weeks. Knew what we were getting into (the nature of the pitch),” Rahul said at the post-match presentation.

The LSG skipper suggested that using spinners in the powerplay was always in his plans as Jaydev Unadkat’s cutters were also catching up.

“We saw in the first few overs: when Jaydev bowled a few cutters, he was getting caught. There was no point in bowling quick spin. I knew KP is better in the powerplay.”

Rahul further lauded the batting unit for adapting well to the situation and said that the players had interacted to help each other.

He said, ‘When I saw both the pitches, the first instinct was that we need to bat smartly here. We have adapted well as a batting unit. Everyone plays very differently. There’s been some chat with the batting group now to help each other out. It’s good to see the players going out there and practicing.”

In a low scoring match, Lucknow Supergiants beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by five wickets. Spin all-rounder Krunal Pandya (3/18) starred with bat and ball. He restricted the Sunrisers top-order to 121/8 before hitting a 23-ball 34 to guide LSG to their second win of the season.

With the bat, nothing went Sunrisers’ way as Kunal took the wraps off openers Anmolpreet Singh and Mayank Agarwal and skipper Aiden Markram. Veteran spinner Amit Mishra (2/23) took two wickets.
