If you’re creating a filter from zero, you can create it using a software system like Visme or Canvato and upload it when you’re ready. If you are doing this alone, make sure you read the submission rules carefully.

Snapchat suggests the following recommendations for creating and uploading creative artwork created in photo editing software or purchased on Etsy:

  • Files must be 1080px width x 2340px long.
  • Files must be less than 300KB in size.
  • The resolution of the file should be 72 DPI.
  • Save files with transparent backdrop as (PNG) files.
  • Use the following approach to save the filter design from the File menu:
    • Save > Save Web (Legacy).
    • From the drop-down option, select the ‘PNG-24’ preset.
  • Leave enough space between your Snap and your filter so that others can see it after applying it.
    • You only need to cover the top and bottom 25 percent of the frame.

After uploading your own design, you’ll be able to use the preview tool to see how it appears on the device. Before proceeding, be sure to check your work.

Set the date for your filter and create a geofence

On the following screen, you must specify the start and end times for your filter. You can also choose to filter cycles at different times, such as daily or weekly.

Click on Next to draw your Geofence. The location where users will search for filters is within your geofence. Keep in mind that the cost of a Snapchat geofilter is determined by the square footage of the area.
