Want to break the trend, want to do something different, challenge myself: Shahid Kapoor on his OTT debut

bollywood star Shahid KapoorCreators of ‘The Family Man’ Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, who are making their digital debut with the series, say they wanted to challenge themselves as an actor with their foray into streaming. Dubbed as a quirky crime drama series, the show is created and written by Nidimoru and DK for Prime Video. It has been written by Sita R Menon, Suman Kumar and Hussain Dalal.

The actor told PTI, “The option to go on an OTT platform was to break the trend, do something different and challenge myself. I have been doing this for almost 20 years, I need to feel challenged and excited.”

“If I am not doing something new, I will get bored of it and then the audience will get bored too. I always feel the need to bring a little change, so that it is fresh. So, this (show) was an opportunity. for,” he said.

The 41-year-old actor said that an artist should try to deliver a fresh story on OTT platforms as the audience is already exposed to different content.

“Whenever you’re trying to do something different, you’re always nervous. People may like you in that place or not like you in another. Therefore, you should always be humble and grounded.” People today have so many choices, watch a variety of content and you should always try to deliver something that is fresh.”

The Delhi-born actor, known for his performances in “Jab We Met”, “Udta Punjab”, “Haider” and “Padmaavat”, said he enjoyed working on web shows. “It’s a long format, I was excited to see how I could make a character into episodes eight to nine in the first season. We’ll see what happens after that. But it’s very different from playing a character.” Which is two hours and a lot at once. All those things are exciting. I really enjoyed myself.”

The actor was looking for an opportunity to work with Nidimoru and DK, who have also directed films like “Go Goa Gone”, “Shore in the City” and “99”.

“The Amazon show with Raj and DK is very interesting and exciting. They have worked with (directors) Manoj Bajpayee in their last project and I wanted to collaborate with them but thought their expectations would be too high (from me) The fact is that he has worked with him (Bajpayee) before.”

“It’s a completely different show with a different world and that’s the most exciting. They’re very good at what they do. It’s very new to me as well.”
Without revealing the details, the “Kabir Singh” star said that he will be playing the role of someone from the streets of Mumbai.

“I understand (the character) completely. When I was 16-17 years old, I was traveling in trains, doing this, doing that. Mumbai street kid, lots of ambition and dreams and With middle class, lower middle class background. There is a crime angle,” said Kapoor.

The series also stars National Award winners Vijay Sethupathi, Raashi Khanna and Regina Cassandra. Speaking about working with Tamil star Sethupathi, Kapoor said, “We don’t have many scenes in the show. We meet only once in the entire show (but) it’s a good scene.”
