Wanindu Hasaranga leads Deccan Gladiators to fourth win in Abu Dhabi T10

Abu Dhabi: Sri Lanka leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga helped Deccan Gladiators register their fourth win in the Abu Dhabi T10 League on Friday after thrashing Chennai Braves by five wickets. Chennai Braves’ batting order collapsed in front of some smart bowling on Friday night as the team could manage only 57 runs in the first innings.

Gladiators Hasaranga was one of those bowlers who broke the back of the Braves’ middle order by taking three for nine in his two overs.

The defeat was Chennai Braves’ sixth of this edition and they are the only side without a win against their name. Chasing, the Gladiators looked in real rush to secure the win and went into attack mode from the first ball.

However, the approach proved counter-productive as they lost early wickets. After Nuwan Pradeep dismissed Tom Koehler-Cadmore in the first over, Mark Deyal got the wickets of Tom Moores and Najibullah Zadran in the next over.

In the next over from Angelo Perera, another quick shot brought about the fall of Odeon Smith, giving hope to the Chennai camp. However, poor fielding and dropped catches shook Chennai Braves as Ravi Bopara dismissed opener Tom Banton off Deyal.

He could only add five more runs to his total, though gave Perera the second wicket of the night before directing a full-toss to Bhanuka Rajapaksa’s throat at long-on. David Wiese and Andre Russell made sure there were no more hiccups as they chased down in the sixth over.

Earlier, with Chennai Braves in dire need of a win, things looked bright for once when opener Rajapaksa opened the innings with a boundary. After losing three wickets in three balls, the batting side could not recover and ended with the lowest score in this edition of the tournament.
