Walmart’s Flipkart moves Supreme Court in antitrust case: Report – Times of India

New Delhi: Walmart’s Flipkart appealed to India Supreme court Against a state court ruling that allowed an antitrust investigation into the e-commerce firm and its rival Amazon.com Inc. to continue, three sources said. Reuters on Tuesday.
The Karnataka High Court last week dismissed cases filed by Amazon and Flipkart, seeking quashing Competition Commission of India(CCI) 2020 inquiry. The companies denied any wrongdoing, but the court said, “they should not be ashamed to face investigation.”
On Tuesday, Flipkart filed an appeal in the Supreme Court, challenging that decision, three people familiar with the proceedings said.
Further details about the challenge, or Flipkart’s arguments, were not immediately clear. The Supreme Court website showed that Flipkart had filed a case against the CCI and other parties without giving further details.
Flipkart did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Amazon is also expected to file an appeal against the High Court ruling, according to people familiar with the matter.
The CCI probe is the latest blow to Amazon and Flipkart, which are grappling with the prospect of tougher e-commerce regulations and allegations from brick-and-mortar retailers that companies bypass Indian law by creating complex business structures. .
The companies are facing a number of allegations in this case, including exclusive launches of mobile phones, promotion of select sellers on their websites and deep discounting practices that drive away competition.
