The entry of monsoon in the country has happened from Kerala on 29 May i.e. 3 days before the forecast. After 15 days of taking entry, it has moved towards Gujarat, Maharashtra, Marathwada, Vidarbha, Telangana and Karnataka. According to the Meteorological Department, till the afternoon of June 14, it has covered western half of Maharashtra, southern parts of Gujarat and western parts of Telangana.

It is expected to reach some more parts of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Bihar in the next 2-3 days.

811.6 mm of rain recorded in a day in Cherrapunji
IMD also shared the rainfall data along with the 24-hour weather report on Wednesday morning. Where Cherrapunji in Meghalaya recorded heavy rainfall of 811.6 mm. This figure is the highest in terms of rainfall in June. Earlier in 1995, on June 16, this town situated in the East Khasi Hills had received 1563.3 mm of rain. Just a day before this i.e. on June 15, 1995, 930 mm of rain was recorded.

Heavy rain likely in Northeast
Cherrapunji, one of the rainiest places in the world, has recorded more than 750 mm of rain in the month of June on 10 occasions ever since IMD started keeping records of IMD data. According to the Meteorological Department, due to a trough in western winds, there is a possibility of heavy rain in Arunachal Pradesh on June 15, Assam and Meghalaya on June 15-16.

Rain conditions in the country till June 15
The northern boundary of Southwest Monsoon has entered South Gujarat. Out of 36 meteorological subdivisions formed in the country due to monsoon winds, only two have received heavy rains. While three have received normal monsoon rains. There has been little rain in 18 sub-divisions and negligible in 13. Overall, till the morning of June 14, the country has received 36% deficient monsoon rains. However, this pre-monsoon phase is continuing.
