‘Waiting for Mughlai Paratha…’: Oppn Attacks Govt’s Move to Rename Mughal Gardens; BJP Says Shredding Signs of Colonialism

TMC’s Rajya Sabha MP Jawahar Sarkar posted a sarcastic tweet on Sunday, saying: ‘Waiting for Mughlai Paratha to be renamed Swarg Lok or Indra Lok Paratha’

The Center appears unfazed by the opposition’s attack on the renaming of Delhi’s iconic Mughal Gardens as the signboard of ‘Amrit Udyan’ was brought inside Rashtrapati Bhavan and placed outside Rashtrapati Bhavan, the BJP-led central government said. “Another piece symbolizing colonialism”.

While the opposition advises the government to focus on creating jobs and controlling inflation, the famous Mughal Gardens of Rashtrapati Bhavan will now be known as ‘Amrit Udyan’ and will open to the public from January 31. ,

The Congress did not officially react to the name change, but the Trinamool Congress and the CPI rejected the move and the Left termed it as an “attempt to rewrite history”.

Meanwhile, Union ministers and BJP leaders defended the decision, calling it a step towards a “new India”.

“Welcome and thank Hon’ble President Draupadi Murmu ji for renaming the iconic gardens at Rashtrapati Bhavan to ‘Amrit Udyan’. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said on Twitter, “This new name is not only another symbol of a colonial relic, but also reflects India’s aspirations for Amrit Kaal.”

Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said, “Our Honorable President of India, Draupadi Murmu ji has set an example by renaming the iconic gardens at Rashtrapati Bhavan to ‘Amrit Udyan’.” A powerful symbol of our country’s progress and a reflection of a bright future for New India,” Rijiju said in a tweet.

Stating that the Mughals killed Hindus and destroyed temples, BJP’s Shubhendu Adhikari insisted that “places named after him should be identified and renamed”.

Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in West Bengal Shubhendu Adhikari said, “If the BJP comes to power in Bengal, we will remove all British and Mughal names within a week.”

However, the opposition said that the government should instead focus on job creation and controlling inflation.

“Who knows, they may want to change the name of Eden Gardens to Modi Gardens! They should focus on creating jobs, controlling inflation and protecting the precious resources of LIC and SBI.” PTI said Derek O’Brien, leader of the TMC parliamentary party in the Rajya Sabha.

CPI General Secretary D Raja said that this process of renaming has been going on for a long time and no one knows when it will end.
