The Pakistan Super League (PSL) encounter between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators turned out to be one of the most thrilling matches in the history of the competition. The fixture not only offered a thrilling finish but also some nerve-wracking matchups. The rivalry between Wahab Riaz and Martin Guptill was a clash that enthralled the spectators present in Rawalpindi. Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, March 8. Riaz failed to start his spell on a promising note after Guptill hit three fours in the third over of Quetta’s innings. However, the left-arm pacer had the last laugh after he managed to send Guptill back to the dressing room on the fifth ball of the over. The Pakistan international came halfway down the pitch to complete a return catch a few yards out from Guptill. After getting out, Riaz decided to hug Guptill. The Pakistan pacer did not stop here and kissed Guptill’s helmet as well. However, the Quetta opener didn’t react and looked dazed.

Batting first, Peshawar Zalmi posted a mammoth score of 240/2. Peshawar captain Babar Azam scored a brilliant century in the match. The Pakistan skipper hit 15 fours and three sixes to score 115 off just 65 balls. Quetta Gladiators had started the run chase on a positive note after their opening batsmen – Jason Roy and Martin Guptill – got off to a flying start. Guptill was the first player to be dismissed, playing a quick-fire 21 off only eight balls. Roy, on the other hand, stepped up his attack and the English batsman scored a brilliant century. Roy’s incredible innings of 145 gave Quetta a thrilling eight-wicket win. The 32-year-old’s match-winning performance also helped him become the highest individual run-scorer in the history of PSL. The Quetta-based franchise eventually scored the winning runs with 10 balls to spare and also pulled off the highest successful run chase in the tournament’s history.

After the defeat, Peshawar Zalmi are fourth in the PSL standings with eight points. Whereas Quetta Gladiators are at the fifth position.
