Today is the first phase of voting in the UP assembly elections. Voting is being held for 58 assembly seats in 11 districts of western UP. Voting will be held from 7 am to 6 pm. 623 candidates are in the fray in the first phase. Of these, 73 are women. Apart from this, 9 ministers are also in political riots. This time SP-RLD have formed an alliance in West UP. SP has fielded candidates on 28 seats and RLD on 29 seats. One seat has been given to Anupshahr NCP. There KK Sharma is in the election fray. BJP, Congress and BSP are contesting all 58 seats alone. It is believed that the trends of the first phase of voting determine the rest of the trends, so the election of Western UP is very important.

The polarization of votes did not happen till the last moment!
The Muslim vote bank in western UP does not appear to be in a state of disintegration this time. It is believed that Muslim vote can be divided only in those seats where BSP has fielded its Muslim candidates. The Jats are looking angry with this government on the issue of farmers’ agitation. However, all the ministers including Amit Shah, Yogi have definitely made efforts to allay the resentment of the Jats in one way or the other. At the same time, the Dalit vote bank has remained silent. Dalits are in a decisive position in some seats in Saharanpur, Agra.

In western UP this time also development and employment have not become an issue. In the last phase, the speeches of the leaders remained focused on Jinnah, Muslims, terrorists, goons, Mandir-Masjid, Muzaffarnagar riots. The leaders made every effort to polarize the votes till the last moment of the first phase of elections.

All eyes on many seats including Kairana
In the first phase, there are many seats on which the eyes of the whole state are on. Among them, Nahid Hasan of SP won the Kairana seat in 2017 by defeating Mringaka of BJP, based on the issue of migration. This time too both are face to face. Nahid is contesting from jail. The importance of this seat can be understood from the fact that Amit Shah did a door-to-door campaign here.

At the same time, BJP has given ticket to Minister Kapil Dev Agarwal from Muzaffarnagar this time too. The SP-RLD alliance has fielded Saurabh Swarup in front of the minister. The sitting MLA of BJP is Yogesh Dhama from Baghpat seat. In front is Ahmed Hameed, son of Nawab Kokab Hameed. BJP’s fire brand leader Sangeet Som is contesting from Sardhana seat.
