Virgin Atlantic London-Los Angeles flight diverted after assault on cabin crew

A British resident aboard a flight from London to Los Angeles has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting crew members after the flight needed to be diverted to Salt Lake Metropolis, authorities mentioned. The Virgin Atlantic flight landed in Utah after William Stephen Hayes, 39, turned upset mid-flight and needed to be restrained by the flight crew, Salt Lake Metropolis police mentioned in a press release.

Whereas restrained, Hayes managed to kick airplane seats and home windows and injure crew members and a passenger whereas he was restrained, the assertion mentioned. Police mentioned not one of the accidents had been severe. Hayes was taken to the Salt Lake County Jail and police mentioned the case was referred to the U.S. Lawyer’s workplace, which usually has authority over worldwide flights. The aircraft then resumed its flight to Los Angeles.

No prices had been filed as of Wednesday morning and it was unknown if Hayes had an lawyer who might touch upon his behalf. The U.S. Lawyer’s workplace didn’t instantly return a phone message looking for remark.

Virgin mentioned in a press release that “the security and wellbeing of our prospects and crew is all the time our high precedence and we don’t tolerate any behaviour that compromises this.”

“Our cabin crew are extremely educated to take care of any people that will influence that have for others,” the assertion added.
