Virender Sehwag made a big statement about the Indian batsman, said there may be an end in ODIs

Team India had an amazing ODI series against Sri Lanka, where they won 2-1 and they also had many young players who proved their mettle at the highest level. In the first ODI, Ishan Kishan hit a half-century on debut, while in the second it was Deepak Chahar’s turn to impress as he scored 69 to lead the team to an impossible victory. Come the third ODI, leg spinner Rahul Chahar has shown why the future of Team India

But apart from the positives, there were some players who failed to impress. One of them was veteran batsman Manish Pandey, who has not cemented his place in the team even after all these years. He came back with a poor score. According to former India opener Virender Sehwag, this could be Pandey’s end in ODIs.

“Here was an opportunity for Manish Pandey and even Hardik Pandya for that matter. Both had scored around 15-20 runs so they let me down even more. If anyone had the biggest advantage in this three-match series, it was Pandey. He played all three matches, and got a chance to bat, and on all three occasions, the situation was not challenging enough that he had to accelerate,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

“So, I believe Pandey has disappointed me the most. He might not get a chance for India in ODIs now and even if that happens it is going to take a long time. Since he scored in these three matches Missed the opportunity to do so, so he lags in the pecking order. Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan have scored runs, so both of them will be considered ahead of them in the middle order.

Sehwag, on the other hand, defended Prithvi Shaw, who did not score a fifty in the series but looked excellent as long as he was at the crease.

“I understand that when a player is in contact, he would like to score more but sometimes it happens that you cannot read the game properly, as happened with Shaw. He probably didn’t expect the ball to come to him so quickly and wrap on the pads.”
