Virat Kohli’s passion and energy ‘not enough to win trophy’ after RCB defeat says Gautam Gambhir

IPL 2021, Eliminator: Royal Challengers Bangalore lost their Eliminator match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2021. KKR beat RCB by four wickets after a disappointing batting performance by Virat Kohli’s men.

Former KKR captain Gautam Gambhir said that Virat Kohli’s passion and energy for the game is not enough for a team to win the trophy. He also questioned Kohli’s tactical game.

This was Virat Kohli’s last match as the captain of RCB as he had already announced that he would not lead the team from the next IPL. Virat was the captain of RCB for the last 8 years.

“He’s got a long, long run. Eight years is a very long time. And yes Sanjay talks about his passion and stuff, but maybe he was never the best tactician or a cricket fielder ever as captain. But there was no cleverness required.

You have to be comfortable and ahead of the game. Yes, you will see passion and energy but it is not enough to win you trophies. You have to be a good strategist too,” said Gautam Gambhir on ESPN Cricinfo while talking to Sanjay Manjarekar.

Virat Kohli has already announced that he will not continue as the Indian T20 captain after the World Cup is over.

Kohli was the captain of RCB for eight years, but did not win the trophy even once, even reached the finals, but could not cross the line with his team.

“He has captained India for a very long time, he has captained India in all three formats, so I am sure from the point of view of strategy and tact, he was not right there,” Gambhir said.
