‘Virat Kohli & My Time With RCB…’: AB de Villiers Recalls Time Spent With Great Players During IPL

Cricket South Africa (CSA) is gearing up for its first ever T20 league which will be called SA20. CSA chief and former South African captain Graeme Smith is currently promoting the event India As all Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises have played a vital role in making this league a reality.

Meanwhile, former South African captain and one of the former favorites in the IPL, AB de Villiers recalled his time as a favorite Virat Kohli and Glenn McGrath. He also said that playing in the IPL changed his life.

“My IPL journey started in 2008. My first IPL year in 2008 was a huge opportunity for me and many other players. The introduction of IPL changed my life and people are really crazy about cricket. Not only the home team but members of the other team as well. It tells a story about India as a nation. I think they have always been very welcoming, and they make you feel like you are one of them,” de Villiers said.

“The biggest thing for me has been the people I’ve met there, and I think that’s obvious. My time with Virat Kohli and RCB and if I go back further, I’ll remember the time I spent with Glenn McGrath. He was a very tough guy and suddenly I was sitting with him in the changing room and having a beer after the match.

AB de Villiers, who is also known as Mr. 360, further said that SA20 is happening at a very right time and will provide a huge platform and exposure to the youth of the country.

“I think SA20 is coming at a really good time for South African cricket. And we have seen what these leagues have done for cricketers of a particular nation, to give youngsters a foundation and exposure at the highest level against the best players around the world and that is what it is all about,” he said.

The former RCB batsman said that he is excited to see Devald Brewis and other youngsters taking the field and expressing themselves.

“It is great to have Indian people on board as investors and some of them are big companies. I think there are many young players who have come forward in the last few years. I think of Dewald Brewis first on my list. I am looking forward to watching him play and some other youngsters who did really well.
