After an incredible IPL with the bat, Kohli’s focus has shifted to the WTC final as MSK feels he should be cheering for India winning an ICC trophy after a long time.

Former India chief selector MSK Prasad believes that Virat Kohli will make a big difference in the upcoming World Test Championship final against Australia next month at The Oval in England. Kohli has been in incredible form in recent times and has scored 639 runs in IPL 2023 including two centuries. He did his best to take RCB to the playoffs with two consecutive hundreds in the last two league stage matches but a loss against Gujarat Titans cost him the jersey.

The batting maverick also scored a brilliant Test century against Australia in the last match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy before IPL 2023.

After a disappointing few years, Kohli regained his form in the Asia Cup 2022 and since then has been scoring consistently across formats. He ended his century drought with a maiden T20I ton against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup and followed it up with impressive knocks in both ODI and Test cricket.

Talking about Kohli’s drought in the past, Prasad said the 34-year-old has set a very high standard for himself and the captaincy has put a little extra pressure on him during his tough times.

“2021-22 has not been very good for him. But that’s because we expect too much of him. He has set very high standards for himself. He has to score a century in every match, otherwise it is a failure. But after all he is a human. The pressure of captaincy saw him struggle for a while, but once he found his rhythm and clarity, he hasn’t looked back. He has been in great form since last year’s Asia Cup and has scored hundreds across formats,” Prasad told ANI.

After an incredible IPL with the bat, Kohli’s focus has shifted to the WTC final as MSK feels he should be cheering for India winning an ICC trophy after a long time.

“It must be coming to his mind that India has not won any ICC tournament for years and he should be motivated to give his best to help India win,” he added. With his form, state of mind in a good place and his seniority being above 100 Tests, I am sure he will do well in the WTC final,” Prasad told ANI.
