Virat Kohli-Michael Vaughan will see himself as a failure in IPL captaincy

Leaned out as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) IPL 2021, Virat Kohli’s captaincy stint also came to a disappointing end with one final and zero trophy to his name. To this, former England captain Michael Vaughan feels that Kohli will see his captaincy stint at RCB as a failure.

“His legacy as captain in IPL cricket will be the one he didn’t win. Vaughan was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz that this is what it is about – high-level play is about overtaking the line, winning trophies, especially when you are at Virat Kohli’s level.

“I’m certainly not saying he is, but he would see himself as a failure in IPL captaincy – because he is such a motivated player and person – because he doesn’t have that trophy in hand.”

The former England cricketer further said that what the Indian captain has done for the longest format of the game – Tests – is ‘brilliant’. But in white-ball cricket, Kohli is currently way behind the target.

“What Virat is doing with the Test team and Test match cricket, developing the Indian team, is fantastic. You have to say and be honest, that in one-day cricket and T20Is for the national team and Royal Challengers Bangalore, he has fallen short.

“The talent and the team he has to work with is the best. RCB’s team has been quite heavy in terms of batting in the last few years. This year, with the quality of Maxwell and Harshal Patel and Chahal, they had the bowling to match the batting, and yet they fell short.”
