The false information suggested that the police would offer complimentary transportation for women between 10 PM and 6 AM.

In response to a viral message circulating online, the Karnataka State Police Department on Thursday evening clarified that claims of a new free travel scheme for women were unfounded. The false information suggested that the police would offer complimentary transportation for women between 10 PM and 6 AM and encouraged single women to call helpline numbers 1091 or 7837018555 if they were not able find a ride.

The department’s official Twitter account debunked this claim, stating, “Watch out!! On calling the control room from 10 pm to 6 am, the message of free travel for women is circulating, which is false. Call 112 for emergency assistance..”

The police emphasised that there was no such travel scheme in place and urged citizens to use 112 for emergencies. The city police’s statement reiterated that the viral message was merely a hoax.
