Viral ‘Manike Mange Hite’ first Sri Lankan song to go global: Yohani

Sri Lankan singing sensation Yohani is in India, all set to perform his trending Sinhalese song ‘Manike Mage Hite’ live at different venues.

She will be seen in action at the Supermoon #NowTrending concert in Gurugram on Thursday and again in Hyderabad on October 3.

In an exclusive conversation with IANS on the eve of his live concert, Yohani shared his excitement of touring India for the first time and the immense popularity his song has gained.

“This is my first visit to India. I am really excited to see how it is going to be and how the response is going to be,” she said.

The young singer is basking in the glory of her success as she has been receiving constant calls for offers to sing in India. “A lot of opportunities and offers are coming from India,” she said.

Yohani shared that when he composed the song he had not seen ‘Manike Mage Hite’ trending.

“Absolutely not. I never thought it would go this far. We didn’t even think it would go out of Sri Lanka, because that never happened in our country. So, it’s really a good thing to see it happen,” he said. said.

His song proved once again that music has a universal language, as people loved a foreign language song so much.

The singer said, “For me, it is amazing to see how people are liking it without understanding the meaning of the song. It is amazing to see how many boundaries, cultures, languages ​​it has crossed.”

Yohani also decoded the meaning of the song in Sinhala, a language primarily spoken by the Sinhalese people in Sri Lanka.

“Manik is what you call love. Maggie is mera hai, aur hitte dil hai. It’s about loving someone. It’s a love song. Technically, the original song was sung by a male singer, Satheesan. goes,” she said.

Yohani is a self-taught singer whose forays into music began at an early age.

“There’s no musician or singer in our family. My grandfather did a little bit of music,” she said.

“My mother taught me piano as a child. My parents listen to all kinds of music. When I was in school, I used to play the trumpet and French horn,” she said: “I learned to play the guitar through YouTube For.”

The young singer has sung several covers and some original songs.

“‘Manike Mage Hite’ is my sixth original single,” she said.

Interestingly, Yohani had no plans to pursue music as a profession as she was pursuing her degree in accounts.

“In 2019, I completed my Masters in Accounts. I was taking Accounting and Logistics as my career. But then I gave up Accounts completely and came back to Sri Lanka to start music from scratch, ” He said.

He said, “My parents were the way it is! But now they are really amazed by the response my song has received. I am very grateful for that.”

Yohani is also a big fan of Indian music.

“As Sri Lankans, we love Hindi music as well as songs in all other Indian languages. My biggest inspiration in India is AR Rahman. But I am also inspired by Divine, Badshah and Neha Kakkar,” she said.

Yohani shared that she has also received congratulatory messages from Bollywood. “I got messages from Abhishek Bachchan and Jackie Shroff appreciating my song,” she said.

He is excited about his first concert Supermoon #nowtrending and has an interesting mix of songs for the live audience.

“We have an interesting line-up. I have my band. We are excited to show you what we’ve got. We have tried out some Hindi songs as well as some English and Sri Lankan songs.”

The singer admitted that she does not know Hindi, but is learning to sing in the language.

“I am still learning to sing in Hindi,” she said.
