Villagers Pelt Stones at Bulldozer During Anti-Encroachment Drive in MP’s Ujjain; 8 Policeman Injured

Ujjain (MP): Locals allegedly pelted stones at a bulldozer during an anti-encroachment drive in Ujjain’s Jhitarkhedi village on Friday. According to reports, nine people, including the JCB driver and police officials, were injured in the incident. Heavy police force has been deployed at the incident site. “The anti-encroachment drive was carried out to demolish an illegally constructed wall,” police said.

According to the information, some people occupied the government land and installed the statue. They have also put up a boundary wall. The Panchayat had complained about this. On Friday, the police team along with the administrative officials reached the spot and demolished the wall from JCB.

When the team was returning, the villagers pelted stones at them. According to reports, the locals thrashed the JCB driver and tried to set the truck on fire. When the police team returned to the spot after getting the information, the local people also attacked it. Several police officers fled in different directions to escape.

“We had received information about a boundary wall which was built illegally. Anti-encroachment drive was being carried out when some locals started pelting stones at the bulldozer. Some police personnel and JCB driver were injured in the incident. Adequate number of police personnel have been deployed at the spot,” news agency ANI quoted Ujjain Additional District Magistrate Santosh Tagore as saying.

He further said that action was taken after receiving information from the authorities regarding encroachment on government property.
