Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala The state is determined to prevent new HIV infections by 2025 and can achieve this target much earlier due to significant progress in the health sector, Chief Minister Pinarayi vijayani said on Wednesday. Chief Minister, in a Facebook Post on the occasion of world AIDS DayThe State can achieve the target of preventing new infections by intensifying preventive measures, as well as by detecting HIV patients and providing them with appropriate treatment and care.
Vijayan said that October 25,775 cases The state had reported HIV cases and the prevalence of infection among adults was 0.08 per cent as against the national figure of 22 per cent.
He said that the cases of HIV in Kerala are less as compared to other states, but there is still room for improvement.
The CM said the state health department and the AIDS Control Society have jointly planned comprehensive programs at the state, district and taluk levels, to be part of the government’s plan to prevent new HIV infections.
He said the message of World AIDS Day this year was to ‘end inequality, AIDS and epidemics’ to make possible an HIV-free community and for this necessary awareness has to be created.
