Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021-22: Shikhar Dhawan falls for a duck, but Delhi take Jharkhand easy

Veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan failed to trouble the scorers but the talented Himmat Singh chased down the target with a scintillating century as Delhi thrashed Jharkhand by six wickets in a Group C league match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Wednesday.

Batting first, Jharkhand scored 263 for 8, with captain Virat Singh scoring 79 and Kaushal Singh scoring 69 runs.

Delhi captain Pradeep Sangwan took three wickets for 46 runs.

In reply, opener Dhawan, who is scheduled to travel to South Africa for the ODI series, was dismissed by Anukul Roy off Varun Aaron.

But Dhruv Shourie (64 off 82 balls) and Himmat (113 not out off 124 balls) put things under control by adding 127 runs for the second wicket in 25 overs.

While Shourie hit seven boundaries, Himmat, who is considered one of the best talents to come out of Delhi, hit 11 fours and a six.

Delhi posted 183 for 4 but Himmat had the support of Khasitiz Sharma (43 not out off 39 balls) as his unbroken stand of 81 runs ensured they reached home with three overs to spare.

In other group matches, Saurashtra beat UP by 32 runs at Chandigarh’s Sector 16 Stadium while Hyderabad beat Haryana by five wickets in the third game of the group at Mullanpur.
