Videos of moral policing of inter-faith couple surfaces on social media, Udupi police register case against Hindutva activists

The Udupi police registered a case of rioting, wrongful restraint, provocation to breach public peace, and assault on a woman against some right-wing Hindutva activists for allegedly accosting and harassing an inter-faith couple at a tourist site in coastal Karnataka last month.

A complaint over the incident that occurred last month was filed on September 21 by the younger brother of a 23-year-old Hindu girl who was allegedly harassed by unidentified right-wing activists after she was found at the Sirimane waterfalls in the Shivamogga district with a Muslim male friend.

Videos of the alleged harassment of the young couple in public were posted on social media accounts. “The posting of the videos has caused great distress and mental trauma to my sister,” the 21-year-old youth has stated in his complaint.
