A major accident took place in Jorhat, Assam on Wednesday evening. Here two boats carrying more than 100 passengers collided in the Brahmaputra river. After the accident, 30 people somehow saved their lives by swimming. More than 70 people are being sought. These include women and children as well.

Both the boats were coming from different directions. One boat was coming from Nimtighat in Jorhat to Majuli, while the other was going from Majuli to Jorhat. According to locals, the boat was just 100 meters away from Majuli Ghat. About 25 to 30 bikes were also kept in the boats.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team is rescuing people by running a rescue operation. After the accident, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed grief over the accident. He has directed the state minister Bimal Bohra to reach the spot immediately. He has said that he will go to Nimti Ghat tomorrow.

Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke to the Chief Minister of Assam on the phone and inquired about the incident. The video of the accident is becoming increasingly viral on social media. In the video, the boat is seen sinking, after which the people on the boat are jumping into the river.
