In a year filled with dull sequels and remakes, Shoojit Sircar’s ‘Sardar Udham’ starring Vicky Kaushal has finally given film buffs a jolt of originality and cinematic brilliance. The film is based on the lesser-known story of freedom fighter Sardar Udham Singh, who assassinated Michael O’Dwyer, the former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab in British India in 1940, to avenge the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919.
Though the film’s daring screenplay and direction deserve every inch of praise, but its heart and soul is that of Vicky Kaushal who shines and how he proves that he is one of the best actors of his generation. As the film completes two months today, the actor took to Instagram to express gratitude to all those who showered immense love and appreciation on the film.
Vicky shared a heartbreak about his character from the film, writing, “This film was a great learning journey for me as an artiste and as a human being. Gratitude for all the love that keeps pouring in. #SardarUdham #2 months.”
South filmmaker Vignesh Shivan also praised Vicky by re-sharing the ‘Uri’ star’s post on his Instagram story. Vignesh said that Vicky “deserves every award on the list” for his “extraordinary” performance in ‘Sardar Udham’.
At the trailer launch of the film in September this year, Vicky Kaushal said that there was such a paucity of published material on Udham Singh that his only method for character creation was to rely completely on Shoojit Sircar.
“You’ll get different names, identities, and faces. How do you tap into the core of that person? The only way to play this part was to completely surrender to Shoojit’s vision. The more I saw him Heard, I felt that the way he understood the era, the way he studied the freedom struggle, Sardar Udham Singh, Shaheed Bhagat Singh… I have never met anyone like him.”

Meanwhile, Vicky Kaushal recently tied the knot with Bollywood star Katrina Kaif in Rajasthan. Both were dating each other for almost two years.
